What I learned from my first project "Jewel Thief"

Jewel Thief was the first project that I ever chose to publish, and it took quite a while to really get it out. It actually built on a previous game I made titled "Parkour" where I was just experimenting with the mechanic of running down a wall to gain momentum and how that impacted the overall platforming experience.

For this game, I wanted to focus on a similar experience as the last game, but I wanted to incorporate running on the side of walls as a mechanic, as well as build a much deeper world. I think I succeeded in this to some extent, but I feel that the platforming challenges might be a bit much for those inexperienced with 3d platformers, and the same goes for getting used to the control scheme. I would like to have made the game more accessible in that regard, as removing most of the glitches made it a bit hard to run on the side of walls.

I'm fairly satisfied with the way the game looks, given how I animated the character's various actions, but it was really the other companies that I have credited for the game that provided me with the models and textures to create something that looked like a world.

If there's one thing that I learned when making this game though, it's that maybe next time, I should aim smaller and make a more polished experience. With Jewel Thief, I think maybe trying to make a 3d platformer all by myself was a bit too much to take on. Unless this game is somehow fairly well received, I think maybe my next game will be an arcade fighting game with RPG elements. That way I can focus on a smaller arena with deep combat. So it might become something people might play and come back to over and over as you can get a different experience each time.

I'm not sure how well my first project will be received, though I truly thank anyone who has played this game or takes the time to comment. This game has taught me so much to help me in my further projects, and I welcome any constructive criticism of it. If you would like me to help you with understanding this game's control scheme, I will gladly upload a tutorial video for your assistance on my Youtube channel "Draco Blitz".
